I am looking forward to using this herb with or without the crap I am on now it was ok in the case of an emergency when I had a stroke in October but after 6 months of being on Labetolol, Enalapril, Verapamil and Hydrochlorothiazide I can't have a decent night's sleep my bones ache, I lost half of my tooth I have no will to live and no strenghth. I am always
urinating getting all my clothes dirty even my skin looks terrible plus I am gaining wieght! No way am I going to continue taking these prescriptions.
I had the same problem wit lisnoapril before i left the hospital. They had me on 14 med's now I'm down to 6 meds. .When I got home I started doing my own research on all of the meds my doctor gave me. Lisnoapril what was making me sick all the time I stopped taking it all together. Then I started looking at natural herbs. to replace what i stopped taking. I found that hawthorn berries was the answer. that was 5 years ago. now I take more herbs.Thank You God for leading me to the Truth about natural Herbs.
I made up a list of all my med's and herbs on the computer. so when i have to go to the doctors office he gets a copy of what I'm taking.
a few years ago i was on medicare in Michigan they sent me to midwest health clinic.
the doctor looked at the list of med's and herbs for a minute.
looked me in the eye and said why are you waisting your time and money buying this CRAP.
That was it I got up and walked out of his office and I have not been back since.
Doctor only believe in what the AMA say's they have no time to do their own research. They care more about what goes into their pockets than anything else $$$$$.$$$. Apparently he is full of Crap.
I feel great,I do have Congestive Heart failure. high blood pressure and am a diabetic.
I had 3 stents put in in Dec 2010. They put me on Lisinopril, Toprol XL and some other meds. I felt worse after the stents than I did before. I was pretty sure it was the meds, so I quit them one at a time to see if there was any improvement (BTW I don't recommend this approach....when I stopped the Toprol XL cold turkey my BP was all over the place). In any case, it seemed to me that Lisinopril was the culprit and I have now replaced it with Hawthorn. Too early to see if it's going to help but will keep you posted. I'm starting on 300mg per day. If anyone has a suggested dosage I would appreciate hearing from you.
Make sure it is the Standardized hawthorn Extract (which comes from the leaves and flowers) rather than just the berries. (it is ok to have the berries too, but the leaves and flowers are important). As far as dosage, start at 300mg/day and work up from there. HOWEVER - do not take hawthorn with any beta blockers (like toprol XL or any other beta blocker) - there could be bad interaction between the two. Also - going off the beta blocker should be a gradual process of tapering off the dosage gradually over a 10-14 day period. Going cold turkey is very dangerous.
You are 100% wrong. To get full benefit one must get the "Berry" form which contains the whole herb. And dosage should be between 15 -20mg's per kilogram of body weight. Much higher than 300mg's a day. Wait 6-8 weeks to see full benefit.
Hello, Today I was made aware of this herb. Thanks to my Daughter.I do herbs big time for years,I am a 19yr. challenged Fibro person..
This question is for D Nelson.I checked to purchase this herb, however I did not find the flowers and leaves..
How are they purchased?,and where, and how would you intake the flower and leaves?
Hi Fred, if you are diabetic, you can consider looking at loquat leaf. read & learn more about it. hope you will benefit from it.
Hi Laurie. Hope you're still checking in here from time to time. I too was on a Beta Blocker. In my case, for 20 years. I ended up gaining a ton of weight, was in pain most of the time with both muscles and joints, among a host of other problems. I was also diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 2008. Recently, I decided I was tired of being sick and tired so took my healthcare into my own hands and started researching medications I was on to see what, if anything, was causing my issues. I came across the information I have linked to below. I am now in the process of titrating off the beta blocker and am ramping up on the herbs, including hawthorn. I already feel a million times better. Hope this article gives you some good insight. http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/117/20/2706
use stinging nettle for urination control
hawthorn berries for your heart
Interested in the nettle as I have this problem during the day as I have had prostate cancer for about 12 years. I also take Hawthorn for my heart. They wanted to take me in the same day I had my test to insert a stent. That was 18 months ago & I avoided the stent & the load of drugs prescribed & have got back to a 3 1/4 mile bike ride without any problems. I should say I'm 83!
I have been using wild hawthorn berries for trreatment of stroke for the past 2 years. Since beginning I have had no further symptoms or problems of any sort.
Blood pressure is as low as 111 over 74 which for a person of my age is
considered to be well above excellant. I am athlectic and run 5km almost every day.I'll eat hawthorns till I die because of overall health improvewment. B. Page.

Hi, this is 70 yo w/f - been taking Hawthorn Berries Extract 141 mg. std. to 1.8% Vitexin with additional 424 mg. Hawthorn included in the same capsule for about 12 years. Began taking this after congestive heart failure secondary to viral myocarditis @ that same time. This all followed an ablation of SVT. As of today, my BP is completely normal, as is my heart function (perfect output) Never have taken subsequent BP meds or any sort of cardiac meds. Very thankful God for this. Hope this info. is helpful to someone. Thank you.
This Herb Sure Helps Circulation and palpitations if they bother you try this, you wont be sorry..
I've noticed several posts by folks who are going cold turkey off of their medications for high blood pressure. PLEASE, especially those of you who are on Beta Blockers, DON'T just stop cold turkey. I know you want this crap out of your system, but you have to stop these meds slowly or you can have potentially dangerous, even life threatening issues come up. You can start taking the Hawthorn now, take it for a couple of weeks and then start reducing your dose of the pharmaceutical. You should always do this with your physician's help if possible, but PLEASE don't just stop cold turkey!
Actually DON'T start taking the Hawthorn until you are off the Beta Blocker. There could be dangerous interactions between the two. But, yes - get off the beta blocker slowly (gradually reduce the amount taken each day over a 10-14 day period).  I have been on two BP medications that have been giving me horrible side effects that have become progressively worse over the years - one a Beta Blocker, the other an Ace inhibiter. I am gradually tapering off the beta blocker over a two week period, but maintaining taking the Ace Inhibiter. Once off the beta blocker I will start taking the Hawthorn. Once I see a stable BP (when I find the right dosage of Hawthorn), I will eliminate the Ace inhibiter  and add CoQ10 and Allicin (the key component found in garlic).
On what basis do you warn about hawthorn/beta blocker interaction. As yet I can find no contrindications, but am not about to attempt both until I do.
I am using Hawthorn, but I am wondering if it is ok to use Evening Primrose with it?
Hawthorn works well for my blood pressure, but can it harm my eyesight> I have had problems with my eyes and am not sure if they are due to the hypertension medicines I used to take or if hawthorn is mimicking their effects - as it is also a vasodilator - and if it is harming my eyes.
My eye doctor told me that the High blood pressure causes issues with the blood vessels in the eyes. I had been prescribed Lisinopril, but it made me cough. My doctor switched me to Diovan which then made me retain water even with the HCT (water pill) and my joints ached. So I quit taking it (and it was expensive) The Eye doctor told me to take Fish oil capsules twice a day. It helps everything from your head to your toes (including the eyes) He also told me that it is important to take the BP meds in the morning b/c lower BP during the day was good, but the eye vessels need the higher pressure at night. About a month ago, I switced to the Hawthorn Berries and feel so much better as far as my Blood Pressure and other circulation issues. I did see a report about Green Coffee Bean Extract that is supposed to be better for Blood Pressure issues, but have not tried it yet. Oh, 1 tsp of Apple Cider vinegar a day is good for Cholesterol levels--and many other things. Mix it in OJ or hold your nose and drink in a small glass of water.
WHAT ABOUT DREID HAWTHORN BERRIES? DO THEY HAVE THE SAME MEDICINAL EFFECTS? TY
I hope this natural alternative works well for you. Remember it is said that it takes a while in your system to begin effectiveness. I find that's true of most natural approaches--patience is required.
I have just using this this wonderful herb, and it seems I can detect some improvement in my overall cardiovascular system. I don't have rapid palpitations anymore. I have more energy and less stress. It's a wonderful blessing from the Most High YHWH. Peace!
Had really high blood pressure around 144/120 or doctors was talking about putting me on high blood pressure medicine. So and started taking hawthorn berry and garlic regularly and table salt. Took about 2 months, last time I went to doctor it was down to about 120/80. Was also taking a lot of ibuprofen for aches and pains, but since started take these I think i have took only 2 total since then.

Hi, Geoff Wilson is my name:
I have experienced congestive heart failure. I thought I was going to die. That was in 2001. A friend of mine who is a naturaopath gave me some free advice that involved taking hawthorn berry extract and a magnesium supplement.
There were other measures as well, but I still take thopse two supplements even though my symptoms, enlarged heart and congested lungs are no longer apparent.
Geoff - How much Hawthorn Berry extract and how much, what type of magnesium supplement....please. I'd love to know so that I can quit looking for a while. I only suspect the CHF condition....but know HBerries and Mag won't hurt me. Thanks for your help. Thanks for responding asap. I look forward to hearing from you.
My success with my Afib. hhas been with capsul of 250mg extract
250mg leaf, one morn & eve, & mag glycinate 400mg. HawB

I saw that somebody talked about having pitted edema in their legs. I have had it for the past 15 or so years. I was obese and had gastric sleeve surgery and have lost 70 pounds, but I still have the edema. It's not as bad, but my legs still look ugly and puffy. I am thinking about starting Hawthorn Berry supplement. Will this help with the edema in my legs. Nobody has been able to tell me why I have at these years!
Im 22 almost 23 yr old, and i have been dealing with SVT since i was about 16. I have never been on any meds, overall healthy, i workout a lot/play soccer. Episodes usually happen during physical activity. this past november i had an ablation done, almost 3.5 months later i still have SVT. Can this hawthorn berry stop these episodes from happening??
I've just started taking Hawthorne Berry. I have had 2 valve replacements with stainless steel valves, so I have been on warfarin since 98. Will this interfere with the warfarin which is a blood thinner.
i have picked hawthornberries in august in saskatchewan canada abundantly. dry them on cookie sheets in a varenda. i will crush them in a grain mill, then pulverize further into a powder like form to which i as a heaping teaspoon to about a 4 cup pot of steeped tea. they r naturally sweet never needing sweetner to my tea. at 55 years of age i use them to tame my heart arithmias and paplitations, and lower my blood pressure. at 150 lbs, slim and working a hard homecare job,,,,,i am living so healthy and happy berries.

I am very interested in advice and suggestions from y'all, especially D. Nelson, as you seem to "know your stuff." Let me share my background with this quick: I am 54 years old. Over the last several years I have been diagnosed with a-fib. Not severe for the most part; in fact, other than "heart farts" as I call them, (sorry, LOL, it's the little temporary skipping that occurs) I have only gone into full-blown a-fib 5 times in the last 7 years. Three times I was cardioverted and sent home, no biggie. My cardiologist put me on Fleccanide and coreg for about 18 months or so, and 4 baby aspirin a day. Then after I quit smoking my BP dropped so low, he had me stop all meds immediately except for the baby aspirin. I still had the occasional little heart farts, and then about a week ago, after eating a sausage that I knew dang well not to eat, I went back into full-blown a-fib. Stupidly I had also started smoking again (and am stopping again-please God for good this time!) He had me take my meds again and 24 hours later my heart went back into rhythm on its own. I saw him the next day and he put me on this hideous new blood thinner called Xarelto instead of the aspirin. It makes me so dizzy and light-headed and queasy that I am uneasy even about driving. I have a call into him today to discuss it. But I hate being on these meds and started doing research for healthy alternatives; that's how I found this site. Any and all suggestions, advice, etc will be welcomed. I grew up in California where we have lots of homeopaths, not so here in Georgia; most people I have asked don't even know what it is! So can you help?? God bless y'all and thanks!
There are two things which may help = the first is a good fish oil and the second is nattokinase. I drink a special water (Japanese Medical Device) which also thins the blood.
say you have a hawthorne tree, is it okay to eat leaves as well as berries? there's a lot of species of hawthorne. are they all beneficial?

About 2 days after the dr had told me that my tryglicerides were so high that I had the same chance of having a heart attack as someone who had aready had one, I was still half-asleep early in the morning and had this random thought that I should take Hawthorn berry. When I got to work, I checked it out and read that it was good for heart problems. And I do feel better now and my tryglicerides are down. Crazy way to hear about it, but I am glad.
When is the best time of day to take Hawthorne?
Is it OK to take hawthorn berry and agnus castus?
I started having heart palps after a virus last year. Needless to say, they were very concerning to me as i've always been a healthy woman. A friend told me about Hawthorn berry so i gave it a try. Within a week the palpitations began getting weaker and less often and i believe within two weeks they were gone completely. First time i've really seen an herb or vitamin work so fast and so thoroughly....

Can I take this while I'm on Effient and asprin? I just had a stint put in my heart.
Does anyone know????? Thanks
I just had a stint put in and I'm taking Effient and Asprin to thin the blood. I know I have to be on this for a month or two, but it gives me a ferrosous headache. They wanted me to switch blood pressure medication but I didn't fill the prescript. I take Aldactazide 25/25 once a day and I will stay on that. Been on it for 20 yrs.. Not sure if I can still buy it off the internet or The pressure wasn't bad but it's better now. I want to take the Hawthorn but I'm not sure if I can with this Effient. It's Nov. 3, 2012 if anyone knows, I'll check back and see. Great info and thanks!
I have a prolapsed heart valve, and because of this suffer from arrhythmia. I take hawthorn as tea. I pick it from the hedgerows and keep it frozen in a container. I use leaves and berries both ripe and unripe. When I use it I have no heart arrhythmia symptoms. And it also makes me feel more relaxed. I think that's because when you have arrhythmia you often feel as if you are in a state of flight or fright.
I also make fruit leather with the berries. I make it into little flat squares and keep it in an air tight container and then have one inch square a day, which has the same effect as the tea.
Has anyone heard of multi-vitamins causing blood pressure to spike? I had to quit taking mine because my bp shoots up drastically after taking them...
For over 40 years, I have suffered with severe water retention in my lower legs and feet. I had had numerous ultrasounds done to see if there was blockage, and there was none. My veins in my legs were just not working. I had pitting edema everyday after 4 hours of rising. Well, by chance I stared taking some Hawthorne Berry pills, and within 3 weeks--the edema is gone. The "bulges" of water in my legs have gone. I am morbidly obese, but am now able to move and walk more without the breathlessness that I used to have. So happy to have discovered Hawthorne.
That is great!! How are you doing now?
I have had the same problem for 20 yrs. What brand and how much do you take?
What doses are you taking and are they the regular Hawthorn Berrie capsules that you can purchase at any health food store?

Oh, Hawthorn Berry can really lower blood pressure and help during the shortness of breath! Amazing.
took hawthorne berry for 6 months doses of 300mg then 900mg. My blood presrure went from 138/85 to 125/65 7 cholestrole dropped 20 points , not the mention this herb has a calming affect to it as well: absolutely works. Also i have been working out for over 8 years so excercise did not cause the drops in bp & Ch nor did i change my diet, not to mention my cardio improved in 3-4 weeks tremendously! Try some
I had been diagnosed with afib. and put on metoprolol, digoxin and warfarin. Had side effects from both digoxin and warfarin, and ended up back in hospital with a heart rate of 27. they said over medicated. I was off everything for four days and put on lower doses. Still had problems with digoxin and war. Started looking on my own, as the Heart Dr. said, " your body will get use to it, keep taking them."
I had thankfully been healthy all my life and allergic to some drugs over the years that had been prescribed, so I knew to look elsewhere. I found recommendations online by Dr. Sinatra and others for Hawthorn Berry.I took it into my Heart Dr. he fired me.
At the time I couldn't walk past five houses and back without being out of breath. Previously to Afib. I was walking 2 to 3 miles a day. On May 20th,2011 I started taking two Hawthorn B. one morning, one in the eve ( 250mg extract 250mg leaf) by July I was walking a mile a day and quit the warfarin. and went to Natto Plus.
I have a new Heart Dr. I had a stress test in Nov. passed with flying colors. No sign of Afib. and the Dr said,( he didn't know too much about what I was taking and he was going to check into it. But would I take a baby aspirin a day too. I told him no problem. My next appointment with him is next fall, and I'm 75 yrs. young and again walking two or so miles a day, Thank God, Helen in Venice, Fl Â
Wish it was clear whether you continued to take the metoprolol with the hawthorn.
I believe the potential issue with taking Hawthorn Berries with meds such as beta blockers is just that both lower blood pressure, so you may be on too high a dose of beta blockers if you're also taking Hawthorn Berries so your blood pressure could end up too low.
Like what I am reading. Just bought some Hawthorn berry, but it is 525mg per capsule. I read somewhere not to take more than 180mg per day--should I throw this bottle away?
What I heard and read was 1500mg's prescribed. I have taken 2 a day of 250mg extract 250leaf, always take standardized herbs. since May and have gottin the all good from my Dr.
I picked hawthorn berries in the autumn, covered them in vodka, and left them to stew in the sunshine on my windowsill for three or four weeks. Then decanted filtered liquid into a bottle. I have been taking a little less than a teaspoon  twice a day just before meals, the added bonus of which it prepares my stomach for food, so indigestion significantly reduced. My husband takes capsules, but we seem to have had the same improvement in quality of life and ability to exercise more than before.
I have been taking hawthorne for two years for hypertension high blood pressure. My doctor thinks I am still taking my Zestril. My bloodpressure has been normal. It really works. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â From Sherry in Westland Michigan
I am 33Â years old. My blood pressure use to be around 142/96 (average). My doctor tried several types of bp meds. There was always a side effect. After researching Hawthorn Berry, I am now off of bp meds.
I have been taking Hawthorn Berry for about 6 months now. I first began consuming what the directions called for, 1 capsel 3 times a day. In doing that I began to get heart palvatations. A person working at a health food place suggest that I lessen the dosage. I now take it once a day in the mornings. I also run the treadmill 30mins a day at least 3 times a week and I stick to low sodium foods.
I am now experiencing low blood pressure. I think it worked to well. Maybe 111/81 bp is ok for me? i am exhausted all day though. i think i will now try taking Hawthorn Berry everyother day now.
You may want to add some Ubiquinol to your regimen. It helps bring the energy to every cell in your body. Be sure to get the Ubiquinol NOT the Ubiquinone, which your body has a hard time breaking down.Â
I am glad that you decided to reduce the dosage. Please let me know if taking it every other day worked for you.
I have been taken Hawthorne for more than 5 years ,I am on 20 percent of heart quadruple by pass 16 years ago

I have been taking Hawthorn Berry for only a month now, but have noticed a very unwanted side-effect. Since starting to take a normal dosage of 500 mg a day I am unable to fully obtain and sustain an erection. As a healthy and active 50 year old this has not been a problem for me in the past.
Can Hawthorn be taken with Linisopryl (my blood pressure med) active in my system.
Hawthorn can be taken safely with Lisinopril, just watch your blood pressure carefully lest it should get too low. Remember, herbs take time, so relax and let it do it's job.
It says right on the lisinopril information not to take with hawthorn
I'm on lisonopril but want t try Hawthorne berry is it safe
how lomg does hathorn have to be taken to be in affect, i currently have a clot in my leg and have high blood pressure, can i take hawthorm with cumeden? email@example.com
not a good idea to take coumadin and hawthorn together...both thin the blood, and may make bleeding a problem (shaving, abrasions, ulcers).
I want to read in spanish, please.
Use Babelfish.com to translate any web page or word.
If you take hawthorn daily, does it build up in your body?
had 3 stents put in in Dec 2010.
Does anybody have any experience of withdrawal symptoms when changing from hypertension medication to herbs such as hawthorn?
I went see a Shaman time ago and he recommended that i drink hawthorn tea about 3-4x a day becuase he sensed something about my heart. He also mentioned the dangers of smoking for me, tho i smoke regular, 6-8 cigs a day and lots of the wacky kind** I drink it like a beverage, my chest pains, lil bouts of panic hypochondria about my haert or palpitations is gone, drink it everyday.
