I've used lemon balm leaves in regular tea as a calming agent for many years (I grew my own). I also use capsules of Melissa before bedtime when i'm having difficulty relaxing.

Last summer, I grew some lemon balm in my small garden. I dried it, and have used it for tea on a few occasions, and it definitely helps when I am feeling anxiety.

When using this and other herbs, how does one take it? Do you dry it and make tea with it, or just eat it plain?

A lady I knew suffered from migraines. The meds the drs gave her was not working. I suggested that she try the lemon balm. I saw her about a month later and she looked wonderful. She told me her migraines were gone. She took the tea 3 times a day for 2 weeks and then she cut back to once a day.
It’s been over a year now since she started to take the lemon balm, no migraines, and she is still taking it once a day

I grow lemon balm every where once you starts to grow you can't stop it.
The fresh lemon balm leaves chopped up in Tomato salad is so flavorful.
Steep the leaves with Ginger Root and add Stevia plant leaves to sweeten.
I also use the leaves in Tomato Sauce/Spaghetti.
This plant can be used in so many ways.

Reply for Kitma,  I grow Lemon Balm in the garden, and in the morning put a sprig of leaves (about 6 or so ) in a mug of freshly boiled water together with lemon juice and honey to taste; and leave it for  about 10 minutes to steep before drinking. When the drink is finished I eat the leaves as well. It is a very good allround tonic, and a couple of people in our area who drank it regularly lived  to over a 100. I recently started adding  a little cinnamon powder ( it must be the real cinnamon from Ceylon and preferably organic) because I was told that honey and cinnamon combined act as a good healer for a variety of complaints. You can also chop the leaves up and add them to fruit salads, and put them in with fruit in pies or crumbles - although I expect they are more nutritious raw. Also, if you ever have a lipsore it will heal much quicker if you steep a few leaves in just enough boiled water to cover them, and then when the water has cooled dab it on the sore several times through the day. If you haven't got a garden then try growing some in a big pot - it is something well worth growing! Best wishes.

Kitma, I have been really pleased to find this information as up until now I mainly drank tea and cordial I made from it because I really like it! I have found this site in the course of looking for gripe water recipes for my infant daughter and now I have seen it, will definitely add lemon balm in. To make a really delicious cold drink/ice cubes, I tend to use plenty of the stems and leaves (washed and chopped into smaller lengths - a good fistful when the stems are whole), add half a lemon cut into maybe 6 pieces and squeezed. Cover with boiling water so you have a good sized jug or pan full and periodically pound the stems carefully in the water so that eventually they will look quite dark green and wilted. If you have mint too, you can mix lemon and mint stems if you like. Stir in honey to taste and once the infusion has cooled naturally, strain well and chill or make ice cubes. As someone else said, it is a vigourous growing plant so get it going well and you should be able to do this whenever you want in the Summer.

hello, I'm 25 yo female...I'm young but suffer from GI disease (Crohns disease), depression, anxiety, arthritis (from multiple knee surgeries), fatigue, cold sores, and fybromyalga...I think that's it lol. I started to wonder if anything would help with my health. I started to take lemon balm about 3 weeks ago, though it's still a working progress and are still working it in my system, I am having a lot of relief (mainly my Crohn's and anxiety being targeted at this short time of taking it). I have been also taking about 12,000mg of fish old/flax and valerian root (which helps tremendously with restlessness...& has helped me LOTS). Though I think various natural/herbal medicine has helped, lemon balm has been a big factor in that too

Have been taking this for about two weeks since my mom passed away, it really helps calm me down, so I can get to sleep, I only use a few drops, 6 to 8 in water and it works, I always take less of the recommended dosage , I don't need much for it to work. All in all, glad I bought it and would recommend it.
