I used Psyllium for cholesterol control. Eating oatmeal nearly every day for breakfast didn't help. Adding to that regimen a heaping teaspoon of Psyllium husk for a year lowered my total cholesterol by 32 points. I take the Psyllium an hour or so before the evening meal. I continue to use it to see the effects of the second year. Larry

Hi Larry How do you take this, do you mix it in water and let it settle for about 5 minutes before drinking it. I need to lower my Cholesterol. Thanks for your help.

It does work to clean you out and make you feel better. For me, everyday, two tablespoons with two glasses of water 20 minutes before breakfast.

To start the day on a top note try this for a delicious breakfast - mix 3 tspns psyllium husk with 1/2 cup water, add 1/2 cup tinned fruit salad and 1/2 cup yoghurt. Wash it down with large glass water.

Sorry, I accidently hit the wrong key!! I was saying that I agree with most here in this forum Psyllium Husk is great for helping with many things including cholesterol and regularity. One thing I will recommend for someone who might consider taking it, is to drink plenty of water or liquids after. In fact I've found it less "bloating" if you drink a glass of water 15 minutes before taking a spoonful in 8oz of liquid. Another thing that has helped me tremendously to avoid the "bloating effect" is to NOT sit or be stationary after drinking it. A long walk does wonders! Good luck.

My girlfriend and I both ate a spoonful of psyllium husk and we both experienced extra satisfying bowel movements shortly after.

Marcus, your reply does not make much sense, psyllium results do not occur "shortly after taking" moreover, psyllium is meant for drinking with (8oz) of water, and another glass of water thereafter, and not to be taken by eating a spoonful of it without fluid, it will cause the opposite of what you stated, that is to say "blockage of bowel movement" Your reply is rather odd, and one has to ask the question WHY.

you're odd for putting so much effort into diminishing someone else's comments. Maybe the English isn't so perfect, but I think we all got the jist of what Marcus was saying. Stop being ugly.

I am using it and I find great relieve from constipation.
Helped significantly in IBS. Used to have IBS trouble for over 3 yrs due to stress and other medication. Tried Probiotics and Metamucil. Worked great in combination.

Psyllium husks have been recommended to me for ibs - took my first 'dose' today & after reading the favourable comments, I'm looking forward to seeing if it works for me! Question though: It says on the tub to take 1-2 teaspoons in a glass of water, followed by another plain glass of water. I ended up drinking 2 pints of water (for some reason we only have big glasses in our house haha) & felt very bloated afterwards. Too much fluid?

I find that Psyllium is a wonderful additive. Particularly when I sprinkle some on my air sandwiches, it adds a fibrous texture, just lovely. My air sandwiches and water soup have never been so flavoursome. Its a godsend.

I take a table spoon of Psyllium with miso soup or with porridge two to three times a day. Its really good for helping lose weight. I lost 7kg over 5 weeks but i also cut down carbs and trained with weights 3 times a week. Apparently Psyllium helps maintain testosterone levels for men...always a good thing!

hi Diane - where did you purchase the psyllium husk as I'm looking for the psyllium in its most natural and pure form. I don't want it in Metamucil or tablet form if possible. I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada and cannot seem to find it here. I'm not really sure where you from and hoping you from somewhere around here. thanks and hope to here from you.

Psyllium husk is amazing! Very cheap, I have the orange flavored powder. it works wonders, cleans you out in less than a day you won't believe the VOLUME you... "go"... haha.
and it definitely makes you feel fuller.
I take two tablespoons a day in 16 oz. of water. just chug it down. tastes fine as long as you don't let it sit too long hahaha :) but man oh man it is worth it.

I suffered with a pile for about a year, when that went i then suffered with anal fissures for nearly 2 years and i tried everything, creams, diet, high fibre foods, everything and the fissure would go then come back, go then come back, the pain was unbearable and i thought i would never see the day where the fissure would go.
3 months on since taking psyllium husk every morning, im a different person. The fissure healed in a week and has stayed healed for the longest time ive known in 2 years. This stuff is amazing. Ive always said that piles and fissures form because of dry, hard stools that are difficult to pass, they dont just 'form on their own' and the coating that psyllium husk provides make the bowel movement easy. The best thing about it for me (unlike using supplements to loosen stools like lactulose) is that it bulks the stool so when you go, you have gone for the day and dont feel like you need to go again for 24hrs.
I plan to take psyllium husk for the rest of my life and anyone suffering from anal fissures or piles should try this for a month or two. I found it takes a few days to get into your system but once it does it works.

psyllium husk has actually increased my mum's flatulence instead of reducing it. haha, why do you think that is so?

i used to get that too, it may be caused by allergy. just drink lots of water, better yet try to take one tablespoon of virgin coconut oil. dont give up.

I have hated bran flakes all my life, with or without raisins, so guess what?
I tried the loose-pack psyllium first. It's cheaper and I had no problem with swallowing it, but it's messy and awkward to pack along on travels. So then I switched to the "Lady Soma Detox". The packets of pills last for 7 days, and are an EXCELLENT psylium husk supplement. The capsules are convenient. Drink plenty of water! (But that's a good idea anyway.)

I've used psyllium regularly for over 20 years now. Combined with probiotics supplements I rarely experience any ill ness, and my doctors have been amazed how low my cholesterol (HDL) level is.
A physician
27/03/2012 06:15
HDL is healthy cholesterol. If psyllium reduced it, that's a problem. You want our HDL as high as possible. In fact there has never been a heart attack reported in all of medical history in any individual with HDL greater than 100.

I've been happiest with PB8 from Nutrition Now. 2 in the am and 2 in the pm. In addition I use about 4 oz of lassi, a yogurt like drink in my smoothies which is very high in active cultures.

I can vouch for psysllium - it is great to get the bowels moving and regular. Also helps with easy passing if you have hemorroids ... doesn't take much -- I sprinkle on my green salads and granola ... it is tasteless and fine!

Hello - I'm from South Africa and have been using psyllium husk for a good couple of years. I am now in Canada in a city called Edmonton and unfortunately cannot seem to find the natural psyllium husk here. Its either in tablet form or in the Metamucil products but not pure and natural psyllium. Does anyone know where I can purchase this product in its most natural form? please let me know. thanks
